Sarah Palin 'Couldn't Be Happier' for Recently Engaged Daughter, Bristol
Sarah Palin is proud that she will soon be the mother-of-the-bride.
On Saturday, Palin's oldest daughter, Bristol, 24, announced on social media that she just got engaged to Dakota Meyer, 26, a former U.S. Marine who is the third living recipient of the U.S. Medal of Honor since Vietnam.
"Our families couldn't be happier for Bristol and Dakota!" the onetime vice presidential candidate, 51, wrote on Facebook. "We're honored to welcome Dakota into our family. He's an American hero and patriot whose service to our country – like all his fellow Medal of Honor recipients – has been above and beyond the call of duty."
But even more important, Palin points out, "he's a good and kind man who loves Bristol and Tripp, and is loved by them." (Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston is Bristol's six-year-old son with Levi Johnston.)
The couple, who met when he was in Alaska to film an episode ofAmazing America, is perfect for each other, the proud mama says.
"Just as we like to describe Bristol as 'an old soul,' wise beyond her years, the same also applies to Dakota," Palin writes, noting that "he flew up North last week to ask both Todd and Bristol’s grandfather, Chuck, Sr., for her hand in marriage!"
Meyer proposed at a Rascal Flatts concert on March 13,with the band dedicating its hit, "Bless This Broken Road" to the couple.
Palin called it "a perfect song" for them, quoting, "'Every long lost dream led me to where you are ... they were like Northern stars pointing me on my way into your loving arms. This much I know is true – that God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you.' "
"Yes, God working behind the scenes to turn beauty from ashes," Palin continue. "Had tough circumstances in their lives not occurred, and had they reacted differently to those circumstances, they'd have never met. Dakota's story is told in the book Into the Fire."
She ended her post by saying, "Thank you for letting us share good news today!"
